Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's
How are your tarpaulins sized?
At first glance, many tarpaulin sizes may appear to have been randomly chosen. This is because they are based on traditional imperial sizes that have been converted to metric, eg. 12' x 18' has become a 3.6m x 5.4m size. More recently developed sizes may appear to be more logical as they were created using the metric system; ie. 4.0m x 6.0m, 4.0m x 8.0m. A full range of tarps are offered to cover all common applications.
What does Cut Size and Finished Size mean?
Two terms you will see used when describing tarpaulin sizes are CUT size and FINISHED size. All dimensions shown in our website are approximate CUT sizes, this is the industry norm.
All sizes are approximate. This is because woven fabrics are not as dimensionally stable as other materials such as; metals, plastics and wood. During manufacturing, woven materials may easily stretch or shrink when under tension or relaxed, this leads to larger production variances than with other materials.
What does Cut Size mean?
Tarpaulins always finish a little smaller than the amount of raw material used to make them. The phrase Cut Size refers to the amount of starting raw material used to produce a tarpaulin.
Tarpaulins are manufactured from multiple widths of narrower material joined together. The material is cut to length, then each width of material is overlapped and welded to form a strong waterproof seam, each width added makes the tarpaulin larger (wider). Once all the widths have been joined, the sides of the now large sheet is turned back and hemmed around the circumference to form a reinforced double thickness edge to take eyelets.
As a guide, its is normal for the seam welding, hemming , and normal manufacturing tolerances to reduce Cut Size by approximately 5% to the finished size.
What does Finished Size mean?
This is the actual size of the finished tarpaulin.
How are Textarp PE tarpaulins manufactured?
Tarpaulins are manufactured from multiple widths of narrower material joined together. Each piece is cut to length, they are then overlapped and welded along the edge to form a strong waterproof seam, each width added makes the tarpaulin larger (wider). Once all the widths have been joined together, the sides of the now large sheet is hemmed around the circumference to form a reinforced double thickness edge to take metal eyelets.
What is the tarpaulin quality guarantee?
All of our Textarp tarpaulins are guaranteed to be waterproof, having no defects and are UV stabilised when new.
Longevity can not be guaranteed as we have no control over the individual product application, the local environment, or prevailing weather conditions.
Remember, the heavier tarpaulin grades will have greater tensile, tear and burst strength. Generally, the heavier a tarpaulin is the more durable and long lasting it will be.
If a tarpaulin is supplied and found to have a defect please send a digital image and details by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, action will then be taken to investigate the problem. Also refer to our full returns policy for further details.
Do your tarpaulins have eyelets or rope?
All TEXTARP tarpaulin sheets are supplied with an eyelet in each corner and spaced at 1m or 0.5m intervals around the circumference, see the tarpaulin product specification for details. The silver and black HD range of tarpaulins has a plastic reinforced corner protector. Tarpaulins are not supplied with rope.
